Visa Application

Under Australia’s universal visa system, all visitors to Australia must have a valid visa to travel to and enter Australia (other than New Zealand passport holders who will normally be granted a Special Category visa on arrival, provided they meet health and character requirements; and permanent residents of Norfolk Island who may be granted a Permanent Resident of Norfolk Island visa on arrival).

There are many visa options available to people wishing to visit Australia. The appropriate visa option will depend, amongst other things, on the person’s purpose for visiting Australia.

Please refer the attached Business Information Sheet for guidance on the visa options that may be most suitable for conference attendees.

Attendees should also refer to the General Information for Visa Applicants – Fact sheet.

Note: These are the visa options available presently, however the Department reserves the right to change regulations at any time, without notice.

It is strongly recommended that Australian Visa applications are lodged at least two months prior to departure from your point of origin.

Letter of Invitation

If required, a letter of invitation will be provided to attendees who have registered and paid the complete conference registration fee. The letter will provide proof of registration and payment.  Letters of invitation may be obtained by contacting the Conference Managers.  When applying for your visa, you should include a copy of your conference registration confirmation, together with your letter of invitation.

The provision of a letter of invitation will NOT guarantee a visa grant. Visa applicants must demonstrate that they meet all the legislative requirements for an Australian visa.

Please note that this procedure is intended to assist attendees who need to obtain a visa or permission to attend the conference. It is NOT an official invitation covering conference fees and other expenses, including travel and accommodation. It does not imply any financial support from the conference.
